Update and Two New Art Pieces I Thought You Guys Would Enjoy

Hi everyone,

I'm really sorry that I never post on here anymore, but for the most part, makeup has taken a backseat in my life and I don't know if it will become prevalent again. This is just an update on me and two new art pieces that I recently completed.

I'm a senior in high school right now and I am going to Skidmore College next year. Skidmore was the first school that I visited and from the first visit I knew that I wanted to go there. Of course I applied Early decision, and luckily I got in!

At the moment I'd definitely say that art is the most prevalent thing that I'm focusing on, as I have my senior IB Art show coming up in a few months. I recently finished two pieces that I had been working on for months and I'm very happy with the results. I know that this is supposed to be a makeup blog, but some of you in the comments said that you would like to see more of my art, so since that's the only thing I've really been producing, Here it is:

The first piece I think you guys will really like because it sort of pertains to makeup. This is a spiral of mancala marbles with nail polish painted on the back of each one, on a 48" x 48" circular wooden board.

This is what the spiral looks like from head on.
Here's how it looks on an angle.
This is a closeup of the center.
This is a closeup of some marbles on the spiral. I love how the marbles really magnify the textures of the nail polish!

This next piece is a collage/ painting using acrylic paint. It has a bunch of blobs within blobs and bright colors!

New Art Piece and Hair Dye

Hey Everyone!
Just checking in, I'm really sorry I haven't been posting anything on here... I do, however, post a new nail color every day on my other blog if any of you are interested! http://thenailtress.blogspot.com/
Anyway, on to what I wanted to show you! I really liked how the drawing of a lipstick tube came out, so I decide to do another chrome drawing with colored pencils: a chrome christmas bow! I was very happy with how it came out, so here it is:

Now, onto the other thing, I dyed my hair! (only the tips of it) My friends and I decided we wanted a bit of color in our hair, so we went into NYC and bought some manic panic dyes. I decided to dye just the tips of my hair with four colors and it came out awesome!! I think from now on I'll experiment with colors on my tips.
Manic panic was a great brand to use, their dyes are not harmful and I think they're organic or all natural or something, so you can leave them in for as long as you want and your hair won't be hurt! Their color selection is also very good and all of the colors are nice and bright.
I used: Purple Haze, which is a royal purple; Hot Hot Pink, which is a bright magenta; Enchanted forest, which is a deep teal; and Atomic Turquoise, which is a medium-light blue.

Hope you enjoyed!

Some Art I'd Like to Share

Hey Everyone!
As well as makeup, I really like fine arts and right now I'm in my first year of the IB Art Program. I really love the program so far as it allows you to explore whatever you want in art and go in your own unique direction with it. As far as art goes, I enjoy making kinds of pieces that are somewhat on opposite ends; I love drawing closeups of objects (particularly chromatic ones) and making them look very realistic, and then I also love painting very simple shapes in bright, intense colors, together so that they form a pattern. In terms of in-between those two levels of abstraction, I guess you could call them, I don't really like much else, just the most abstract, simple forms of color and illustrative drawings.
For my IB art collection, I'm going with the "theme" of color and pattern, while doing the detailed drawings on the side.

That said, onto what I wanted to show you!
The first three photos are some of the drawings I've done (of makeup) and the last two are of pieces that more pertain to color and pattern.

This is a big drawing, done with colored pencils, of the tip of a lipstick tube held by my fingers. I drew this from one of the pictures I had taken for the big Maybelline lipstick post below.

This is a drawing of my bottle of Zoya's Happi. (This was done with oil pastels for a class assignment early on, so it's not my usual style, but I think it still captures the duochrome color well)
This is a drawing of China Glaze's Millenium nail polish, done with colored pencils.
This is my IB art notebook, which I have covered with a big spiral of nail polish dots ordered in a repeating rainbow pattern.
This acrylic painting is my first official IB art piece. It's a grid of intensely colored squares, in a sort of inverted checkered pattern. My camera could not capture the brightness of the colors at all, unfortunately. Aside from the pattern, the edges between the little squares and the color surrounding them seem to vibrate and the colors pop against each other because the colors are the same value and opposite each other on the color wheel (complimentary)
I know this doesn't relate to what I normally do (makeup) but I really wanted to share everything that I've been doing in my art class because it's very important to me. Also, I wanted to offer some sort of explanation, in pictures, of why I haven't had time to do very much makeup lately.
I hope you all enjoyed!

My New Year's Eve Makeup

Happy New Year Everyone!
I just wanted to share the makeup look that I had on last night to go to Central Park for the New Year's fireworks. I was looking to capture fireworks in my makeup, so I thought what better way than with glitter? In person, the glitter worked really well, but unfortunately, cameras have a hard time capturing what glitter looks like, so it's definitely not as apparent or lively in the pictures.
(the first few pictures are of the makeup BEFORE any glitter was added)
What I used:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow
- Maybelline 8 eyeshadow palette in Sunbaked Neutrals (I used the dark brown and copper in the lower left hand corner of the palette)
- Maybelline Gel Eyeliner in Brown and blackest black
- Cargo Lash Activator Mascara
- Gold Glitter from a crafts store, applied over wet eyeshadow base along the brow bone

Maybelline Monday: Lipstick Swatches

Hey Everyone,
I'm so sorry I haven't been posting for a while, I've had so much work to do and very little free time for makeup. I'm on Christmas break right now, so I'm finally getting a bunch of makeup done! This post is something that I've been wanting to do for a while: swatching my entire Maybelline lipstick collection.
During Fashion Week, Maybelline sent me a big box full of their makeup, so that's where I've been getting all of this. While it is very generous of Maybelline to give me lots of materials to work with, I would like to say that my reviews, swatches, and looks are not altered in any way and will always be my own opinion.

These Lipsticks are the Color Sensational Lipcolors and the Color Sensational Pearls Lipcolors by Maybelline.
These have a really nice, smooth formula that I found, for the most part very easy to work with. The only ones I didn't like too much were the pearl lipcolors because they aren't so much colors, as they are coats of sparkles, so they turned out somewhat patchy-looking. (This may be because my lips were a bit stained after swatching the red toned lipsticks before them.) I also tend to prefer matte lip colors over shimmers, so that may just be a personal preference =)

I hope you find these helpful and enjoy!
